Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated 4 July 2026

This page sets out what you may not do with outr. It is part of our Terms of Service, so breaking it breaks those terms too. Words defined in the Terms mean the same thing here.

outr is a tool for legitimate business-to-business (B2B) cold email. We enforce these rules to protect recipients, other customers, our shared sending infrastructure, the providers we rely on, and us. You are responsible for how you use outr, for the content you approve and send, and for the people and organizations you target, as the Terms explain.

1. Business-to-business use only

Use outr only for legitimate B2B outreach to business contacts about relevant business offerings. You may not:

  • target consumers as consumers, or send outreach for personal, family, or household purposes;
  • use consumer contact lists, or contact people in their private (non-business) capacity; or
  • use purchased, rented, scraped-without-a-lawful-basis, or otherwise unlawfully obtained contact lists.

You must have a lawful basis and any required consent for the personal data you upload, target, or ask outr to source, and the right to contact your recipients wherever they are. Your outreach has to follow every law that applies to you and to the people you contact, including the GDPR and equivalent laws like the UK GDPR, ePrivacy rules and their national versions, the US CAN-SPAM Act, California's CCPA/CPRA, and Canada's CASL.

2. Prohibited content and uses

Do not use outr to send, generate, request, help with, or promote any of the following.

Unlawful or non-compliant outreach. Outreach that breaks any data-protection, anti-spam, marketing, consumer-protection, or other law, or that you have no lawful basis or required consent to send.

Spam and unsolicited bulk mail. Mail that is unsolicited in a way that breaks the law; mail to people who have unsubscribed, bounced, or opted out; or any attempt to get around suppression, opt-out, or volume controls.

Deceptive sending. Falsifying, forging, or disguising sender identity, headers, "from" names, domains, or routing; using misleading subject lines; or otherwise hiding who you are or what your message is for. Every message must accurately identify the sender and offer a working way to opt out.

Harassment and abuse. Content that harasses, threatens, bullies, defames, or intimidates anyone, or is meant to cause distress.

Phishing, fraud, and malware. Phishing, credential harvesting, spoofing, business-email compromise, financial scams, deceptive or fraudulent schemes, or anything that spreads malware, spyware, ransomware, or other malicious code or links.

Adult and other harmful content. Sexually explicit or adult content; content that promotes or enables violence, self-harm, terrorism, human trafficking, or the exploitation of minors; or content that is hateful or discriminatory.

Prohibited and regulated industries. Outreach for goods, services, or activities that are illegal, or that face regulation you cannot meet through outr, including illegal drugs, weapons, gambling where it is prohibited, adult services, high-risk financial or investment schemes, and anything you may not lawfully promote to the person you are contacting.

Intellectual-property infringement. Content that infringes anyone's copyright, trademark, or other intellectual-property or proprietary right, or that misappropriates someone else's identity or brand.

3. Technical and platform conduct

You may not:

  • use outr for anything outside B2B cold email, such as trying to scrape platforms we do not support, SMS, cold calling, or advertising through the service;
  • abuse, overload, or interfere with outr or our infrastructure, including through excessive automated requests, denial-of-service activity, or attempts to exceed or evade rate, volume, spend, or capacity limits;
  • probe, scan, or test outr for vulnerabilities, or breach or get around any security, authentication, tenant-isolation, or access-control measure;
  • access or try to access another customer's account or data, or any data you are not allowed to see;
  • reverse engineer, decompile, or try to derive the source code or underlying models of outr, except where the law says you can anyway;
  • resell, sublicense, rent, share, or otherwise give anyone else access to outr, except as the Terms allow;
  • use outr to build or train a competing product or service; or
  • put malicious code into outr or use outr to spread it.

4. Using the AI

The AI features are covered by this policy and our AI Usage Policy. Do not use the AI to generate content that would break this policy if you sent it, to get around outr's guardrails or the approval gate, or to produce content you know or should know is deceptive, unlawful, or abusive. You are still responsible for reviewing, and for anything you approve, as the Terms and the AI Usage Policy explain.

5. Our guardrails

outr has automated guardrails that refuse certain requests before any processing happens, including requests involving consumer or purchased lists, harmful content (phishing, malware, fraud, adult content, harassment), out-of-scope channels, and abuse. These guardrails back up this policy, but they do not replace your responsibility to use outr lawfully and in good faith, and they are not a guarantee that any particular content or campaign is lawful.

6. Enforcement

We may investigate suspected breaches of this policy and work with law enforcement where that is appropriate. If we reasonably think you have broken this policy, or that a campaign or your use of outr creates a legal, regulatory, security, spam, abuse, or deliverability risk, we may do any of the following, with or without notice, in proportion to the situation:

  • pause, suspend, or stop a specific campaign;
  • suspend or restrict some or all of your access to outr;
  • remove or disable access to offending content;
  • release or scrub sending inboxes assigned to you; and
  • end your account.

We may act immediately and without notice where we think it is needed to prevent harm, protect other customers or recipients, protect our infrastructure or reputation, or comply with the law. Where we can, we will tell you why. Enforcement under this policy does not earn you a refund and does not limit any other remedy we have under the Terms or the law.

7. Reporting abuse

If you think outreach sent through outr, or any use of outr, breaks this policy or is otherwise abusive, tell us at support@tryoutr.io. Include enough detail for us to look into it, such as the message you received, the sending address, and the date and time. We review reports and take proportionate action, and we may come back to you for more. You can report security vulnerabilities and copyright complaints to the same address; copyright complaints should follow our notice-and-takedown process.

8. Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when the current version started. For a material change, we will give notice as described in the Terms. Using outr after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
